CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study
Audio Visuals can be seen as specialist electronic materials that
distributes high quality audio and visual sounds/videos. Simply means
possessing both sound and visual component, such as slide-tape presentations,
films, television programmes, church services and live theatre productions.
Business presentations are also often audio visuals. Computer-based audio
visual equipment are often used in education, with many schools and
universities, installing projection equipment and using interactive whiteboard
technology (Barman and Charles 2014). The New York City Department of
Education (2017), defines audio-visual materials as instructional materials such
as Video tapes, Laser discs, Audio cassettes, Record/Compact Discs and other
Multi-media type instructional materials that have met the guidelines
established by the Office of the Chancellor, and are approved for purchase by
the New York City Public Schools. On their part, Business Dictionary (2015)
views Audio-Visuals as non-paper educational or promotional, such as
cassettes, CDs, DVDs, video tapes and Laser Discs. Audio-visual aids are
sensate tools used in teaching and as avenues for learning, they are planned
educational materials that appeal to the senses of students and quicken learning
for clear understanding (Audio-Visual Aids Blog, 2010), audio visual aids, is
referred as the most modern or the most recent teaching aid such as films, film

both eyes and ears in learning process. For this reason, good teachers always
used devices or audio-visual aids in teaching and learning process. Audio-visual
devices, generally, is an incentive introduced into the method of teaching for the
purpose of stimulating the students and developing understanding through
experiencing. Audio-visual aids are produced, distributed and used as planned
components of educational programmers which helps in the process of learning.
From the foregoing, one can see that audio-visual aids are materials and
instruments that stimulate learner's, senses, especially the senses of hearing and
seeing; and improved students’ comprehension. According to Academia.com
(2014), in their empirical findings; audio-visual aids are used in some private
Secondary Schools in some forms, especially the senior forms, which enhances
student’s academic performance in examinations. To support the above, Faizal

aids during classroom teaching, in private schools in Pakistan; and this enhances
student’s performances. These above observatio
